Terms of use

Plain English, kept short. Using LabReach means agreeing to these. This LabReach is run by Aarush Gupta, an individual in New Jersey, United States (“the person who runs this LabReach” below).

What LabReach is

A tool that helps one student run a small, careful research-outreach campaign: find professors with public evidence of working with students, genuinely read a paper, and send a handful of personal emails from the student's own email account, straight from their Gmail or copied into their own mail app. It is not a mass-email tool, and its limits (3 sends a day, 15 professors at a time, a required reading step) are part of the product, not suggestions.

Who may use it

Students in the United States who are 13 or older. Creating an account asks your age. If you're younger, come back at 13; until then a parent or teacher can run outreach with you. If you're under 18, please read these terms and the privacy policy with a parent or guardian.

Using it honestly

  • Everything you send under your name should be true. The app helps; you own it.
  • You review and confirm every email before it goes; what you send is your speech.
  • Don't work around the built-in limits (caps, the reading step, confirmed addresses). They exist to protect both you and the professors you contact.
  • Don't use LabReach to harass, spam, or impersonate anyone.
  • Only attach a paper or writing sample you wrote yourself (or co-wrote, with your co-authors' OK).

Your content and your account

Everything you write in LabReach is yours. You're responsible for your account and for the emails sent from your Gmail through it. You can export or delete everything at any time (Settings → Account); how data is handled is in the privacy policy.

Third-party services

LabReach talks to services with their own terms: Google (sign-in and Gmail), Anthropic (the Claude API, which writes and grades the AI parts of LabReach), OpenAlex, NSF Awards, Crossref, and Serper, and it runs on Fly.io. Sending through Gmail is subject to Google's policies; the privacy policy explains what each service receives.

Cost

LabReach is free. There are no payments, subscriptions or purchases of any kind, so there is nothing to refund. If that ever changes, these terms will say how payments and refunds work before anything is charged.

No promises

LabReach is provided as-is, free, with no warranty. It cannot promise professors will reply, that public data about professors is accurate, or that the software is free of bugs. To the extent the law allows, the person who runs this LabReach is not liable for damages arising from its use.

Ending things

You can stop any time. Deleting your account (Settings → Account) removes it and everything in it from LabReach's live database 7 days after you ask, and you can cancel until then; backup copies age out within about 90 days. It can't unsend anything: emails you sent stay in the recipients' mailboxes and your own Sent folder, and what was already sent to the AI service is kept by that service under its own terms (the privacy policy says how long). The person who runs this LabReach may refuse or close accounts that use it dishonestly.

Where these terms apply

LabReach is offered only in the United States, and these terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state where the person who runs this LabReach lives.
